As a responsible Cavachon owner, you want to make sure your dog gets enough exercise and mental stimulation every day.
Cavachons typically need between 30 – 40 minutes of exercise per day to stay in good physical health.
With that said, it can be a challenge to find fun ways to exercise your Cavachon aside from a simple walk around the block.
To make your life easier, I have put together this article where I share with you 7 free activities to do with your Cavachon outside.
Hopefully, this will inspire you to get out of the house and exercise your dog in new and fun ways.
1 Play A Game Of Fetch
Let’s start off with a simple one, and probably an obvious one: a game of fetch.
Teaching your Cavachon to play fetch from a young age is one of the best games you can teach them.
A game of fetch in a large open space will easily tire them out without tiring you out.
What’s more, it’s a great excuse to get outside and run around in the fresh air which will do you both good.
Check out the video below for tips on how to teach your dog to play fetch:
2 Join Or Set Up A Dog Walking Group
A great way to motivate you and your dog to get outside and exercise is to join a dog walking group.
Exercising with other dogs and their owners outside can have many benefits:
- You have others to hold you accountable so you’ll be more motivated to walk your dog.
- There are other dogs for your Cavachon to interact with which is good for improving their social skills.
- You can discover new walking trails you didn’t know about before.
- You and your dog can make new friends!
If a dog walking group doesn’t exist in your area, set one up yourself with some of your friends. It doesn’t have to be particularly formal.
3 Create An Agility Course In Your Garden
A great way to exercise your Cavachon outside and to improve your creativity is to build an agility course in your garden.
You can create a dog agility course from almost anything you would find in your house or shed so get creative with it.
In addition to getting exercise, you’ll also be training your dog which is great mental stimulation for them. Consistent training sessions with your dog, especially from a young age is a great way to build a strong bond with them.
4 Explore All The Parks In Your Area
Most people live in a town or city for years without ever fully exploring it. Now is your chance to do just that with your Cavachon!
Start by opening Google Maps and taking a look at all the parks in your area.
Make a plan to visit a different one each week and take your dog with you.
As you start to explore new parks, you’ll likely find new ones you never knew existed. You and your dog will be getting exercise outside and discovering more about your town or city.
5 Go To The Beach
If you live near a beach there is no excuse not to bring your dog with you at least once a week to take in the sea air.
Most beaches will allow dogs as long as they are on a leash to be sure to check that out before you visit.
Walking on different terrain like a fresh sandy beach will be a change of pace if your dog is used to walking on tarmac or cement pavements.
This experience will also be mentally stimulating for your Cavachon. It also gives them the chance to experience something new if they’ve never been to the beach before.
6 Play A Game Of Frisbee In A Big Field
Teaching your Cavachon how to play with a frisbee is another great way to exercise them outside for free.
This is especially true if you can play frisbee in a big open field where you can really let loose.
Frisbee is a great game to play with your Cavachon that will provide them with lots of exercise without tiring you out.
7 Arrange An Outdoor Dog Party
The final free activity on this list is a fun one: arrange an outdoor dog party.
Providing this can be done safely outdoors there’s no reason why you couldn’t invite your dog’s friends over for a party in the garden.
This is a very easy way to make sure your dog and all the other dogs get plenty of exercise outside without tiring you out too much.
I hope you found some helpful ideas for activities to do with your Cavachon outside.
Let’s summarize the 7 activities:
- Play a game of fetch
- Join or set up a dog walking group
- Create an agility course in your garden
- Explore all the parks in your area
